叶有重锯齿、叶脉突出，小坚果附有三裂苞片，树干有纵槽。
外观
- 叶
- 互生卵形单叶，有重锯齿，叶脉突出。
- 花
- 展叶前出现黄色雄葇荑花序和绿色雌葇荑花序，靠风传粉。
- 果实
- 坚硬的褐色小坚果与三裂苞片一起着生。
- 树皮
- 幼树树皮光滑，灰褐色，树干上有纵向起伏。
生长环境
- 原产地
- 原产欧洲至伊朗。
- 生态
- 资料记载其果实为小型鸟类和哺乳动物的食物，叶为多种蛾类幼虫的食物。
